Must-Visit Places in Pattaya: A List Built From 4 Days on the Ground

Hi friends! After Bangkok, we spent 4 nights in Pattaya, Thailand's famous beach city. The question I get most about this place is: "Is Pattaya only nightlife, or are there actually things to see?"

Short answer: there are, and more than you would think. But most of it shows up once you get slightly outside Pattaya's own shoreline.

In this post you will find the distilled version of everywhere we went over 4 days. All the prices are the real numbers we paid. Still, entrance fees and policies change, so check the current situation before you go.

1. Koh Larn Island — The Undisputed Number One

Coming to Pattaya and not crossing over to Koh Larn Island would be the biggest mistake you could make. You cannot even compare the sea in the city with the sea on the island.

How to Get There

The departure point is Bali Hai Pier, at the southern end of Pattaya where Walking Street ends.

Ferry: 30 baht per person (one way), around 45 minutes
Speedboat: Around 150 baht per person, much faster

If you are not in a hurry, I recommend the ferry — it is far cheaper and the ride itself is scenic and enjoyable.

Definitely Rent a Motorbike: 250 Baht per Day

This is the single most important tip I can give for Pattaya. As soon as you arrive on the island, rent a motorbike — there are plenty of shops right at the pier exit. Around 250 baht for the whole day.

Koh Larn is a small island, but the beaches are spread across separate points. If you try to walk, a day will not be enough. With a motorbike you can cross from one end to the other quickly and stay at whichever beach you like for as long as you want. It is not a means of transport here — it is a choice that completely changes how your day flows.

Small warning: the roads are narrow and sloped in places. Do not skip the helmet.

2. Tawaen Beach — One of the Clearest Seas I Have Ever Seen

Tawaen Beach, on the other side of Koh Larn, was the star of the entire trip. Honestly, I felt like I was in the GTA 6 trailer. The color of the water, the texture of the sand, the transparency of the sea... It is a truly paradise-like place.

It is one of the island's most popular beaches, so it can get crowded around midday, but the quality of the water more than makes up for it.

3. Nual Beach — The Quieter Alternative (Watch the Sunbed Fee)

This was our first stop on Koh Larn. Nice beach, clean water, pleasant view. But they charge 100 baht per person just to sit on the sunbeds.

If you are only stopping briefly before moving on, that fee feels unnecessary. But if you plan to spend the whole day at one quiet beach, it is a sensible choice. Just budget for it in advance.

The golden rule for Koh Larn: Go early in the morning. Ferry queues are shorter, beaches are calmer, you have time to tour the island by motorbike, and you get to swim before the sun reaches its harshest hours.

4. Terminal 21 Pattaya — An Eiffel Tower Inside a Mall

Normally visiting a mall would not be a priority on my travel plan, but this place feels much more like a destination than a regular shopping center.

Do not be sad if your Paris visa did not come through! Even at roughly one tenth the size of the real thing, there is an Eiffel Tower inside that has not lost much of its impact.

And the mall is not just about that: almost every floor represents a different country and city. The decoration, the signage, even the seating areas match. Set aside time to walk the floors one by one.

5. Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha) — Adjust Your Expectations

A temple on a hill in Pattaya, considered one of the city's landmarks. Once you climb up, you explore the temple and get a view over the city at the same time.

Let me be honest: after the giant Buddha statue in Bangkok, this one feels small. If you arrive with high expectations, you may feel the same way.

But the genuinely interesting part is not the statue itself — it is the Yaksha statues at the entrance. These are built as mythological guardians, and according to belief they are powerful enough to frighten away evil. With their facial expressions and size, they really do look built for that purpose. Do not rush; look at the details around the grounds, because that is where the real character is.

6. Walking Street — Pattaya's Most Famous Nightlife Spot

The first thing that comes to mind when people say Pattaya. Just like some streets back home are lined with jewelry shops one after another, this street is packed with nightclubs, bars and entertainment venues side by side.

There is music, bright lights, crowds and constantly shifting energy along the whole street. It may not be for everyone, but it is an important stop for understanding Pattaya's character. Even just walking through and observing the atmosphere is an experience.

We went into one of the venues and lost track of time completely; by the time we got back to the hotel, the night had turned into morning.

7. Swensen's RGP Pattaya — One of the Best Ice Creams I Have Ever Had

A friend we met at the hotel pool recommended this ice cream place near Royal Garden Plaza, and I am very glad we went.

For around 266 TL you get a large, genuinely satisfying portion. It may seem a little high compared to Thailand's average, but considering the portion, quality and taste, it absolutely feels worth it. The flavor, texture and ingredients really are noticeably better.

8. Cafe Amazon — The Affordable Break Spot

This coffee chain appears everywhere in Thailand and is genuinely good value. A huge glass of iced chocolate runs about 100 TL.

While exploring Pattaya, especially around midday when the heat builds, sitting in an air-conditioned cafe for 20 or 30 minutes brings all your energy back.

An Honest Note About Pattaya Beach Itself

Pattaya's own shoreline is not near the top of the must-visit list — it is hard to compare once you have seen Koh Larn. But the weather here is noticeably easier than Bangkok's. In Bangkok the humidity can make even a short walk tiring; in Pattaya, the sea breeze and lower humidity make spending time outside much more comfortable.

Walking along the shore is still worth it for understanding the city's character: sea on one side, cafes and malls on the other.

Transport and Accommodation: Practical Info

How to Get From Bangkok to Pattaya

We bought a bus ticket for 180 baht through the 12Go app; the trip takes about two hours. Our departure point was Suvarnabhumi Airport Terminal 2.

Critical tip: After paying, make sure you stop at the ticket counter; they convert your e-ticket into a physical ticket and you cannot board without it.

One more trap: when you get off the bus in Pattaya, transfer drivers ask for 70 baht per person. When we called a Bolt, we covered the same distance for around 25 baht per person. Do not accept the first offer.

Total: Around 205 baht per person gets you from Bangkok to your hotel in Pattaya.

Accommodation

We spent 4 nights at Beach by Anatolia Condo Suite for a total of 6,000 TL. It is only 50 meters from the sea, right next to the city's most popular mall, and about a 15-minute walk from Walking Street.

Because the rooms follow a residence concept, they are far more spacious than standard hotel rooms, cleaning is done daily, and there is a large pool. Honestly, most of the time we preferred the pool over the sea.

If Your Time Is Limited: Priority Order

If you have 2 days in Pattaya:

Koh Larn Island — early morning ferry, rent a motorbike, Tawaen Beach
Walking Street — in the evening
Terminal 21 Pattaya — the Eiffel Tower and themed floors
Wat Phra Yai — the Yaksha statues
Swensen's RGP — an ice cream break

If you only have one day, do not hesitate: just go to Koh Larn.

Final Thoughts

The usual assumption about Pattaya is that it is "just nightlife," but that is an incomplete description. Yes, Walking Street is the city's most famous spot; but between Koh Larn's clear water, touring the island by motorbike and the themed mall, Pattaya offers very different experiences in a short time.

For me the undisputed number one was Koh Larn Island, and Tawaen Beach in particular. Set aside a full day for it in your Pattaya plan.
