A New Way to Find a Walking Companion

Walking requires very little: comfortable shoes, a reasonable route and the decision to leave the house. Strangely, the third part is often the hardest.
Plans to “walk this evening” get cancelled. A friend’s schedule does not match yours. Local groups start too early or meet too far away. You eventually go alone, and a few days later the habit quietly disappears.
What if your walking companion did not need to be in the same neighbourhood? What if walking at the same time was enough?
Talkamble is built around that question. It does not promise a lifelong friendship. It starts with something smaller and more realistic: a human voice that accompanies this walk.
Why a traditional walking partner does not always work
Walking together is enjoyable, but two people need to be in the same place, at the same time and at a compatible pace. Add preparation and travel, and a thirty-minute walk can become a two-hour arrangement.
The problem is not necessarily a lack of friends. Daily schedules simply refuse to line up.
An online walking companion removes two conditions. You do not need to share a location and you do not need to plan in advance. The common ground is that both of you are walking now and both want to talk.
Walking together does not require video
Two people can feel part of the same activity without seeing the same road. The sound of steps, a short pause for breath, or the sentence “I have reached a hill” can create a shared experience.
Talkamble therefore does not try to bring two map points together. Your precise location is not shown to the other person, and the purpose of the call is not to arrange a physical meeting. One person may be walking by the sea while the other is in a city park. The shared moment is enough.
How do you begin a first walking conversation?
“How are you?” often runs out of energy quickly. Better questions cannot be answered with only “good” or “bad.”
Try one of these:
- What made you go for a walk today?
- Is there a place in your city you would show everyone?
- What is the most interesting thing you learned this month?
- What did you want to become when you were a child?
- Which small habit could you repeat for one week?
Listening matters as much as asking. Instead of preparing your next sentence, follow one detail from the answer. “What is that place like?” or “What led you to that decision?” is usually enough to let a conversation unfold.
Not every call needs to become a friendship
Social products often try to turn every interaction into a permanent connection: follow, add, enable notifications, message again. Yet some real-world conversations are valuable precisely because they are temporary.
You talk to someone on a train, receive a recommendation in a café, or discuss one idea with a stranger after an event. You may never meet again, but the exchange still mattered.
A Talkamble walk can be the same. There is no obligation to turn every call into a new person in your life. If two people accompanied one another for the length of the walk, the product did its job.
Use the idea without making the walk depend on it
No app can force motivation. It can only reduce friction at the moment you begin.
- Choose a realistic walking window.
- Put on your shoes before opening the app.
- Begin with fifteen minutes rather than promising yourself an hour.
- If a match appears, talk; if not, complete the walk anyway.
- When you return, write one sentence about how it felt.
The important part is not making the walk depend entirely on a match. Another person can enrich the experience, but the movement still belongs to you.
What should you expect from an online walking companion app?
Before speaking with someone new, check whether the product gives you real control:
- Are accounts persistent and signed in?
- Can you review a profile before the call?
- Must both people accept?
- Is your precise location hidden?
- Can you end the call immediately?
- Are reporting and blocking easy to find?
- Can a blocked person match with you again?
Talkamble is being developed around these questions. Matching requires mutual acceptance, personal details are limited, precise coordinates are not displayed, and ending, reporting and blocking belong in the main flow.

The same moment, not the same route
Talkamble can be summed up in one line: your walking companion does not need to share your road; sharing the moment is enough.
The first iPhone release is being prepared for the App Store. Real screens and the current release status are available on the Talkamble product page.
Your next walk may not reveal a new route. It may reveal a good sentence from a world you had not heard before.
