Day One in Bangkok: Money Exchange and the Vasu Exchange Experience

One of the first things you should do when you arrive in Bangkok is exchange some money. Even though many restaurants, cafes, and small businesses accept credit cards, you may still run into extra card fees or unexpected price differences at certain places. Especially on the first day, having Thai Baht on hand makes transportation, food, small purchases, and any bargaining much easier.

We handled our money exchange at Vasu Exchange, which is close to the Nana area. To be honest, the rate looked pretty reasonable to us and the process was smoother than we expected. We exchanged around 100 dollars and received 3,252 baht. That was more than enough for our transportation and basic expenses during the first part of the trip.

The important thing to remember is that not every exchange office in Bangkok offers the same rate. Comparing a few options, especially in central and tourist-friendly areas, can make a real difference. We chose Vasu Exchange because it was easy to reach and the rate we saw that day felt fair. In short, doing a little research on your first day can directly help your budget.

Another practical point: if you are staying in Bangkok only for a short time, you do not need to exchange all your money at once. Exchanging just enough for the first few days and then doing another exchange later can be a more controlled approach. That also makes it easier to keep track of changing rates.
