First Day in Bangkok: ICONSIAM and Chinatown

On our first day in Bangkok, we decided to visit ICONSIAM, one of the city's most famous shopping malls. There were many transportation options, but honestly, going by boat was the best choice. It was both practical and much more enjoyable. Riding through Bangkok by water gives you a completely different perspective on the city and helps you feel the atmosphere right away.

When we arrived, we were honestly surprised by how massive the mall was. ICONSIAM does not feel like a regular shopping center; it feels like a place worth exploring on its own. What stood out even more was the fact that the food court is on the ground floor. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by insect stalls, which was one of those details that instantly reminded us we were really in Bangkok. It may feel surprising at first, but it also shows how naturally exotic food culture fits into the city.

What Caught Our Attention at ICONSIAM

While walking around inside, you can come across all kinds of interesting things. The one that caught our attention the most was the giant dog statue. When it moves its ears, you may briefly hesitate and wonder whether it is actually alive. Small details like that make the visit feel more playful and memorable than a normal shopping trip.

Fountains, Music, and Atmosphere

On the exit side, you can watch the fountains performing in rhythm with music. When we were there, Blackpink was playing, and the atmosphere was truly impressive. The place felt lively, crowded, and energetic. Walking through spots like this in Bangkok lets you experience both the modern and chaotic sides of the city at the same time.

Crossing Over to Chinatown

On the way back, we took the boat again and wanted to explore Chinatown as well. After ICONSIAM, Chinatown feels like a completely different world. It is busier, more intense, and much more street-focused. If you enjoy trying exotic food, discovering street flavors, and feeling a dense Asian city atmosphere, you should definitely stop by.

Why I Recommend Going by Boat

Taking the boat is both practical and part of the Bangkok experience. You avoid traffic, and using the city's waterways adds an extra layer of fun to the trip. Especially on your first day, trying a different transportation method can make the whole day much more memorable.
